London Biggin Hill Airport is opening a Covid-19 testing centre on site, available to all local residents and businesses, as well as airport staff and arriving and departing passengers.
The centre is named the ‘Mansi Testing Suite’ in honour of Dr Joe Mansi, a local doctor who ‘performed miracles’ while attending to victims at the airport after it suffered a devastating raid on August 30th, 1940. Dr Mansi risked his life to dig out and save those who were trapped underground after a bomb exploded on a trench shelter where 40 airmen and civilians were taking cover.
Colin Hitchins, community engagement manager, London Biggin Hill Airport, says: “We are very proud to honour those who risked their lives to save others during the Second World War and it is our privilege to pay tribute to Dr Mansi and provide a legacy to all the unsung war heroes. “The safety and wellbeing of our staff, local residents and passengers is our main priority and we are glad to be able to bring Covid-19 testing to our community.”
The Mansi Testing Suite will offer testing provided by G16, a highly experienced Covid-19 testing organisation. These include PCR Testing, LAMP Testing, Antigen Testing and Antibody Testing. Results are available from as little as 15-minutes to two days, depending which type is selected. The Mansi Testing Suite is situated at the site of the Lookout Café, Maitland Road, Biggin Hill TN16 3BN.
