“It’s not about medals, it’s not about thank yous but it’s nice to be remembered, because being remembered covers everybody who served and flew under the Battle of Britain and that’s all we ask, to be remembered”. – Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum DFC
On 15th September 1940, a large scale aerial battle in the Battle of Britain took place; involving around 1,500 aircraft fighting in the skies to repel the largest concentrated airborne attack on London and the RAF. It was the day when RAF Fighter Command claimed what proved to be a decisive victory over the German Luftwaffe.
Today, we remember all the brave servicemen and women for all that they did 81 years ago, on the ground and in the air.
