The ‘Build at Biggin’ starts for the Strongest Link Garden

We’re delighted to share that work has started to build ‘The Strongest Link Garden’. Following its showcase at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May, the garden has been relocated to its permanent location, adjacent to our Lookout Cafe, here at London Biggin Hill Airport.

Phase 1 of the build was completed last week, with the walling now fully in place, and the team are gearing up for Phase 2 – which will see the surrounds of the centrepiece, pathways and hedging installed.

John Everiss, our award-winning garden designer, said: “It’s fantastic to see The Strongest Link Garden come to life at its permanent home here at London Biggin Hill Airport, the RAF’s most important base during the Second World War. The garden’s centrepiece, a sculpture of a young pilot looking up at the sky, will overlook the runway – a moving salute to the heritage of RAF Biggin Hill.

The garden is a lasting tribute to all those who sacrificed so much and has been designed to allow visitors to sit and reflect on the service of those that served, in the hope that it will inspire visitors to look into their own history and speak to family and friends about their connections to the RAF.”

Keep an eye on our social media for updates as the build progresses, and information about the garden’s official opening to the public later this year.
