STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM, students develop key skills including: problem solving and creativity.
Our vision is “Unite to Inspire”, encouraging the aerospace world to work with young people from all backgrounds developing their aspirations, knowledge and skills to thrive.
We are exploring the ways we can use STEM every day and the wide range of career opportunities available in and around the airport. We work with local schools to open the doors to the aviation and avionics world and we are also working to encourage families and communities to recognise the value of STEM to young people and therefore supporting them in STEM-related studies and careers.
Biggin Hill Airport Community Fund
The Community Fund is awarded to local projects and community groups annually. The Community Fund works closely with the Residents Association, local Councillors and independent members of the Community, who assess the applications, interview applicants and then the funds are distributed.
Examples of organisations and projects that have benefited are:-
- Planters for Biggin Hill Village
- Painting of the Spitfire Youth Club
- Equipment for Men in Sheds (Biggin Hill)
- Poppies for Biggin Hill Village
- Defibrillators for the Biggin Hill Area
We also encourage Biggin Hill Airport staff to support the projects where ever possible and have allocated 1 day redeemable hours to each member of staff.
Do you know of a local community project that would benefit from the fund?
